Gardens in Matunda Soy, Kenya
The day after the landscape designer for this Baha’i House of Worship learned that Haydn likely had only a few months to live, he wrote to Haydn:
“…offering prayers for you and your family, suddenly I began to see the project in a new way — completely differently than before. I can’t explain the energy that came to me! I want to plant the trees and the flowers of this garden, there in the heart of Africa, thinking of you, inspired by you.” – John Macleod

“Haydn loved oceans and was a huge believer in preserving and restoring our planet. I led this campaign with the Earth in mind, and Haydn in my heart.” – Keyan Robarts

Nineteen
“These pages contain some of the deepest and most intimate chambers of my heart. There were times when I worked on the book, alone in our cottage in Canada, and I couldn’t stop my tears flowing. Sometimes I would wail from the pain of my grief. That cottage was where Haydn took his last breath, and I missed him so terribly. Nineteen is my humble attempt to pay tribute to my son and fellow companion in life’s journey of pain, growth and joy.” – Adam Robarts
“Grief can be the garden of compassion. If you keep your heart open through everything, your pain can become your greatest ally in your life’s search for love and wisdom” – Rumi

Keyan Robarts, Haydn’s younger brother, created this initiative to raise awareness and fundraise for mental health issues among youth, particularly loneliness and depression.
“Three months after Haydn’s passing, I drove with my mum from Ottawa to Toronto. This was really difficult for us because of the memories of Haydn suffering through cancer treatments in Toronto hospitals. On the way there, we stopped for a walking break. I stepped out of the car and saw a stone on the ground. On it were painted the words, “You Matter.” I felt this was a gift, and a sign to start something new. On returning to Ottawa, I started YouMatterYouth.org.”

Keyan Robarts launched this business inspired by Haydn’s love for minimalist design, architecture and simple jewelry. Profits support environmental initiatives and cancer research.
“In October 2020, my parents and I moved to Bali, Indonesia. I went through some painful and dark times. In Summer 2021, I created a jewelry business in Haydn’s name, designing and making jewelry, mostly in recycled silver and bamboo, with artisans in Bali. It’s brought a meaningful purpose, motivation and joy.”

The Global Citizens Initiative, which Haydn joined in 2017 at Harvard University, announced that the closing dinner for their annual event was renamed in Haydn’s honor, “whose brief life touched all who knew him.” Haydn was a proud GCI Ambassador.
“Haydn was a much beloved son and brother, a great friend and a valued member of the GCI Community. He will forever be a GCI Ambassador and will be remembered as a powerful agent of positive change. Haydn’s strength and vibrancy reminds us that there is “light” even during the most difficult of times. We hope that honoring Haydn in this way will memorialize his hope for all of us— ‘live a life filled with joy, and try to consciously consider how to bring joy to the lives of those around you as well’.” –Yumi Kuwana, President of GCI
